RICH FILM OFFER AND CO-PRODUCTION OF POLISH FILMS

Since its establishment on the Polish market, CANAL+ has been supporting the Polish film industry co-financing valuable film productions. Cinema apart from sport is the station's programming pillar. Every year CANAL+ presents nearly 500 film premieres from blockbusters made by leading Hollywood studios through the best European and Polish productions. It regularly keeps up with the most important events connected with the cinema, such as Oscar Awards, Night of César Awards and Golden Globes or International Film Festival in Cannes, it accompanies Polish artists on national festivals, too.

There are films by famous directors and sensational debuts. including, among others such titles as "Kiler" ("Killer"), "Kiler-ów 2-óch" ("Two Killers") "Historie miłosne" ("Love Stories"), "Tato" ("The Dad"), "Dług" ("The Debt"), "Chłopaki nie płaczą" ("Boys Don't Cry"), "Pan Tadeusz" ("Pan Tadeusz: The Last Foray in Lithuania"), "Mój Nikifor" ("My Nikifor") "Vinci", "Plac Zbawiciela" ("Saviour Square"), "Oda do radości" ("Ode to Joy"), "Z odzysku" ("Retrieval"), "Sztuczki" ("Tricks"). An international success has been a film by Roman Polański "The Pianist", whose main co-producer was CANAL+ Group and which in 2003 was awarded with 3 Oscars by the American Film Academy and the Cannes Golden Palm.

CANAL+ supports film production via the Polish Film Institute and every year directly co-finances a few selected undertakings. The projects which CANAL+ has recently become involved in are: an innovative fantasy film "Flying Machine" made in the 3D stereo technology (combining animation and traditional acting with Chopin's music played by a famous pianist Lang Lang), an international production showered with awards "Essential Killing" by Jerzy Skolimowski, "Sponsoring" ("One") by Małgorzata Szumowska, the newest film by Bartek Konopka "Lęk Wysokości" ("Fear of Heights"), "Uwikłanie" by Jacek Bromski or "Blind Watching" by Andrzej Jakimowski.

Pan Tadeusz Every year CANAL+ supports important Polish reviews and festivals, e.g. ERA NOWE HORYZONTY which promotes ambitious original cinema. The station is also a co-organizer of the Polish Feature Films Festival in Gdynia. From among all the co-productions by CANAL+ showed in Gdynia, the most films, i.e. as many as 10 of them, competed for festival laurels in 2001.
